Setters have taken home the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association weekly honors, the league announced on Tuesday (Feb 12). Loyola's Garrett Zolg is the Offensive Player of the Week and Lewis' Matt Yoshimoto is the Defensive Player of the Week.
Zolg engineered a .316 team attack over the course of the Ramblers' 2-0 weekend. The setter compiled 90 assists in seven sets played to average 12.86 per set. His 54 in Loyola's win against Lindenwood was his fourth match this season of 50 or more, and the sixth of his career. Zolg also added a service ace and seven kills this past week. He had 36 in the sweep of Quincy on Friday. He also added three kills and an ace on the week.
Yoshimoto averaged 3.50 digs per set and 0.50 blocks in two league wins last week. He had a season-high 12 digs in Lewis' MIVA opening win at Lindenwood on Friday. He recorded six of those digs in the third set. Yoshimoto recorded a double-double against the Lions. He followed it up with a nine dig performance at Quincy on Saturday. Yoshimoto had four digs each in sets two and three helping Lewis move to 2-0 in MIVA play. The Flyer defense held their two opponents to a .146 attack percentage in the two wins. Yoshimoto is tied for third in MIVA in digs with 87 and is fourth in digs per set in the conference with 2.07 per set.
