The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association has named their weekly award winners for the period ending Feb. 25. Lewis sophomore outside hitter Ryan Coenen has been named the MIVA Offensive Player of the Week. Ball State sophomore setter Jake Romano earned the Defensive Player of the Week Award.
Coenen registered a season-high 21 kills to lead Lewis to a sweep of Ohio State last Thursday. It halted a 38-match MIVA win-streak for the Buckeyes. He hit .514 with 7.00 kills per set and two aces in the match. The 21 kills are the most by a MIVA player in a three-set match this season. On Saturday in a 3-1 win over McKendree, he had eight kills and two aces. He finished the week averaging 4.14 kills per set on a .305 attack percentage.
Ball State's Romano wins the award for a second consecutive week. He averaged 3.33 digs with 30 total in wins over Quincy and Lindenwood. The sophomore recorded 11 digs in a four-set win over Quincy and 19 in a five-set decision at Lindenwood. He also had two blocks in each match.
