Ohio State freshman Jake Hanes has been named the Offensive Player of the Week and Lewis freshman TJ Murray has been named the Defensive Player of the Week, the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced on Tuesday (Jan. 30). The period is from January 22-28.
Jake Hanes averaged 6.42 points per set, powered by a .452 hitting percentage and 5.83 kills a frame. He began the week by notching 19 kills at a .471 rate against the Saint Francis Red Flash. He returned the next day against the Penn State Nittany Lions for 16 more kills and a .429 attacking rate.
TJ Murray helped lead the Flyers to wins against ranked foes Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara. Against the Matadors last Thursday he recorded five of his seven blocks in the third set as the Flyers routed CSUN 25-12. Against the Gauchos on Saturday, he added seven more blocks in the 3-1 win over UCSB. On the week, the freshman middle blocker averaged 1.75 blocks per set.
