Los Angeles, Calif. - Lewis University's seven-match winning streak came to an end, as No. 7 UCLA claimed the 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18 non-conference victory over the No. 5 Flyer men's volleyball team at Pauley Pavilion on Wednesday (March 8).
Lewis senior outside hitter Trevor Weiskircher (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) contributed a match-highs in both kills (13) and blocks (6 block assists), while hitting .400 (13 kills, 3 errors, 25 attacks).
The Flyers also received 10 kills from redshirt freshman outside hitter Ryan Coenen (Franklin, Wis./Franklin).
Lewis sophomore setter Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) had 35 assists and five blocks (1 solo), while freshman outside hitter Kyle Bugee (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) picked up a team-best five digs. Bugee also had a match-high four service aces in the loss.
With the win, UCLA improves to 12-7 overall, while the Flyers drop to 15-4 on the campaign.
As a team, Lewis had a hitting percentage of .202 (41-22-94), while the Bruins connected at a clip of .300 (51-21-100). The Flyers, however, enjoyed a sizeable advantage at the net with a 14-6 advantage in blocks.
Lewis returns to action on Thursday (March 9), as the Flyers head across town for a 7 PM PT showdown with USC.
