Freshman Gerrard Lipscombe and senior Jay Petty have been named the MIVA's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their play this past weekend.
Gerrard Lipscombe, an outside hitter from Grand Canyon, had 17 kills on 28 attempts, hitting .571 with only one error on Sunday against Hope International. On Saturday, Lipscombe recorded 16 kills on 31 attempts and hit .387 to go with eight digs and five block assists. Lipscombe has started in five matches this season and is second on the team with 60 kills at a team-high 3.16 kills per set. The freshman has also had three service aces and seven assists this season.
Jay Petty had a career-high 21 digs for the Lewis Flyers in their five-set victory over George Mason. He also recorded back-to-back solo blocks on GMU's best attacker, which proved to be pivotal in the Lewis win. In the fourth set of the that match, Petty recorded his 1000th kill while competing for the Flyers. Petty has started and played in eight matches this season and is second on the team in kills with 86 and tied for second on the team in digs with 60. He carries a .980 reception percentage.
