Lewis Picked As 2013 MIVA Preseason Favorite

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Lewis has been selected the preseason favorite to win the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association by vote of the league coaches. With six first place votes, Lewis finished eight points ahead of Lewis and ten points ahead of Ohio State. Grand Canyon was picked to finish fourth in the conference while Ball State was picked fifth. IPFW was ranked sixth with conference newcomer Lindenwood coming in right behind at seventh. Quincy rounded out the voting, finishing in eighth.

The coaches also selected the 2013 MIVA preseason All-Conference team. The team is compiled of nine players and one libero. Lewis and Loyola had three members each that were picked by the panel of coaches. Jay Petty from Lewis edged out Loyola's Joe Smalzer for the preseason All-Conference player of the year recognition. BJ Boldog and Geoff Powell rounded out Lewis' selections while Dainis Berzins was the second player from Loyola to earn the honor. Michael Henchy from Ohio State, Ben Ponnet from Grand Canyon, Matt Leske from Ball State and Eddie Rivera from IPFW rounded out the All-Conference team selections. Peter Jasaitis from Loyola was selected as the preseason libero of the year.
