ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Behind 11 blocks and
eight aces No. 7 Lewis men’s volleyball swept Saint Francis
(Pa.) 25-15, 25-20, 25-16 on Friday evening at Neil Carey
arena.
Eight different Flyers earned a block against the Red Flash. Senior

Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) recorded
four aces and six kills.
“The guys established the intensity level from the
beginning,” Lewis head coach Dan
Friend said. “We brought a lot of pressure from the
service line, jumped on those guys and said ‘hey can you
match this level we are going to play at.’”
Lewis led the first and third sets from start to finish. The second
set was the closet, with the Red Flash taking a 9-5 advantage
before Lewis tied it up at 10. It was tied at 17 when a Karbiener
kill, a Saint Francis attack error and Lewis block put the Flyers
up 20-17. Karbiener added a kill for point 22 and an ace for point

“Ian did some really nice things for us late in the second
game and allowed us to finish it off,” Friend said. “We
got in the third game and we jumped on them and finished them
off.”
Junior Eric
Varney (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park/Moorepark CC) recorded
double-digits in digs with 11.
The Flyers hit .270 while holding the Saint Francis to a sub zero
