No. 13 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Falls In MIVA Semifinals To No. 9 Ohio State 3-1
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 13th ranked Lewis
men’s volleyball team couldn’t build off an opening set
victory against ninth-ranked Ohio State on Wednesday evening. The
Flyers dropped the 2011 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball
Association Tournament Semifinal match 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-16,
25-18).
"Tonight was a representation of the season," head coach Dan Friend
said. "At times we were really good and at times we were
inconsistent. It is too bad that showed in our final match of
the year."
The Flyers out-hit the Buckeyes .321 to .241 in the first set
victory. Senior Brian
Muesenfechter (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) had six
kills in the set.
“Moose was awesome in the first game and got us going in the
right direction,” Friend said. “We just couldn’t
sustain it.”
Freshman BJ
Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) had assists on all 14
Lewis kills in the first frame.
Ohio State took identical 8-4 leads in sets two and three. The
Buckeyes used the early advantages to win the second and third
sets. The third set saw Ohio State take a 7-3 lead, forcing Lewis
to ask for a timeout. Ohio State led the rest of the way.
Muesenfechter finished with 13 kills. Sophomore Jay
Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) added
nine kills and seven digs. Boldog totaled 39 assists. Freshman
Roberto
Torres-Davis (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Benito)
had nine digs.
The Flyers end the 2011 season 20-11. It is the fourth consecutive
