Lewis Sweeps Weekly MIVA Awards
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 13 Lewis
men’s volleyball’s Midwestern Intercollegiate
Volleyball Association Tournament victory last Friday over IPFW has
earned the Flyers a pair of MIVA Player of the Week Awards.
Sophomore Jay
Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) has been
named the Offensive Player of the Week while senior Brian
Muesenfechter (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) has
earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Petty collected a career-high 30 kills while hitting .531. Petty
added six digs, five block assists, one ace and one assist while
handling 24 of 25 serve reception attempts. He scored the final
three points of the fifth set. Petty averaged 6.70 points, 6.00
kills, 1.00 block and 1.20 digs in the contest. It is the second
consecutive week Petty has been named the MIVA Offensive Player of
the Week.
“It’s awesome to see Jay honored again, and on a career
high 30 kills,” head coach Dan
Friend said. “The team battled hard against IPFW
and Jay was a big part of us finishing IPFW off.”
Muesenfechter recorded a career-high 14 digs against the Mastodons
and handled 42 serve receptions without an error. Muesenfechter
added three block assists and 12 kills while hitting .269. He
averaged 2.70 points, 2.49 kills, 2.8 digs and .60 blocks per
set.
“Moose being recognized it fitting for what he has done for
us this year,” Friend said. “He is the glue to this
team and is a great defensive player.”
The Flyers are at No. 9 Ohio State in the MIVA Semifinals on
Wednesday. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT.
