Lewis’ Jay Petty Named MIVA Offensive Player Of The Week
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis redshirt
sophomore outside hitter Jay
Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) took home
the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive
Player of the Week Award on Monday after leading No. 14 Lewis to a
pair of victories over Grand Canyon.
In a 3-0 win over Grand Canyon on Friday, Petty collected 20 kills
while hitting .533. Petty added four ace serves, four digs and
three total blocks (one solo, two assists). He posted 17 kills and
hit .205 in a 3-2 win over the Antelopes on Saturday. Petty added
five digs, five block assists and one assist. For the two matches,
he averaged 5.75 points, 4.62 kills while hitting .338. Petty
averaged 1.12 digs, 1.00 blocks, 0.50 aces while handling 32 of 35
serve receptions (.914).
His play moved his points per set average in conference matches to
4.69, best in the MIVA.
“I think it’s great for Jay and the guys,” head
coach Dan
Friend said. “After BJ (Boldog) was hurt Carter
(Cassel) stepped in and pushed the offense. Jay has worked hard all
year to help the team and it nice to see him get this.”
Lewis finishes the 2011 regular season with five MIVA Player of the
Awards. This honor is Petty’s first of his career.
Lewis is 19-10 and 7-5 in the MIVA. The Flyers host IPFW on Friday
at 7 p.m. in a MIVA Tournament contest.
