Michael Adams of Lewis Named MIVA Defensive Player Of The Week
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis redshirt freshman Michael Adams (Webster Groves, Mo./St. Louis University High School) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Adams helped the No. 14 Flyers defeat Quincy and previously undefeated in conference No. 7 Ohio State. In the 3-0 sweep of Quincy on Thursday, he recorded four kills, five digs and three block assists. Adams handled 10 of 11 serve receptions against the Hawks. In the 3-1 defeat of Ohio State on Saturday, he recorded seven kills, three ace serves, six digs and a co-match-high of eight total blocks with a solo and seven assists. In the two matches, Adams averaged 2.86 points, 1.57 blocks, 1.57 digs, 43 aces and 1.57 kills per set. He had a .923 serve reception percentage handling 24 of 26 serve receptions.
“I’m happy for Mike and the team,” head coach Dan Friend said. “Mike stepped in and took full advantage of an opportunity. He helped us pick up two key conference victories.”
The award is Adams’ first weekly MIVA honor of his career. It is the fourth time this season a Flyer has earned a MIVA Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Lewis is the 17-9 and 5-4 in the MIVA. The Flyers’ next match is on Friday at 6 p.m. against IPFW at Neil Carey Arena.
