IPFW's Corey Frain Honored as MIVA Defensive Player of the Week
Columbus, OH - After a career weekend at the
net, junior middle blocker Corey
Frain has been named MIVA Defensive Player of the
Week.
In Friday night's four-set win over George Mason, Frain posted a
well-rounded statline that included five kills, three digs and a
.308 attack percentage.
In Saturday's win over Sacred Heart, the Joliet, Ill. native
exploded for a career-high 14 total blocks, including 13 block
assists. The block total is the highest single-game total of the
year as the Mastodons posted a team-best 19.5 blocks as a team.
Overall on the weekend, Frain totaled six kills, two service aces,
four digs, two solo stops and 16 block assists.
The honor is the first of Frain's career and third so far in the
2011 season for the Mastodons. Senior outside hitter Darryl
Shank earned back-to-back Offensive Player of the Week
nods in January.
IPFW returns to action Thursday (Mar. 10) with a conference matchup
in Phoenix against the Grand Canyon Antelopes. First serve in the
match is scheduled for 10 p.m. EST.
