Lewis' Ian Karbiener Named MIVA Defensive Player Of The Week
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis sophomore opposite hitter Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week for his play in conference victories over Quincy and IPFW last week.
In Lewis' 3-0 win at Quincy last Tuesday, Karbiener collected a match-high eight digs and 14 kills. He added one block assist and one ace while hitting .524. Karbiener had a co-team-high seven digs, one assist block and two ace serves in a 3-1 win at IPFW on Friday. He added a team-high 13 kills while hitting .333. For the two matches, he averaged 2.14 digs, .29 blocks, .43 aces and 3.86 kills per set while hitting .407.
"It's great for Ian and the rest of the team," head coach Dan Friend said. "Everybody has been working very hard and it is great to be recognized."
In conference matches, Karbiener leads the MIVA in digs with 2.42 per set.
This is Karbiener's first career weekly MIVA award after earning MIVA Freshman of the Year last season.
The Flyers (10-3, 3-0 MIVA) are ranked No. 14 in the latest AVCA poll.
