Lewis Moves To 5-0 With Sweep Of Lindenwood
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Behind 14 kills by sophomore Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), Lewis men's volleyball moved to 5-0 on the young season with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 victory over Lindenwood at Neil Carey Arena on Friday evening.
Lewis had 10 different players record a kill. Sophomore Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) hit .533 with eight kills and no errors. Senior Brian Muesenfechter (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) and junior Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) each had six kills. Freshman setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) totaled 38 assists and helped Lewis out-hit Lindenwood .437 to .271.
The match featured just seven ties and three lead changes. Lindenwood was the first club to call a timeout in each set with the Flyers holding advantages of 9-4, 14-6 and 15-8 when the Lions asked for time.
"Our middles were really physical from the get go and Jay had a great night," head coach Dan Friend said. "I thought the guys played a controlled high level all the way around."
The Flyers had seven aces with Muesenfechter recording three.
Lindenwood falls to 1-2. The Flyers are at St. Francis (Pa.) next Friday.
