Roberto Torres-Davis Earns MIVA Defensive Player Of The Week Honor for Lewis
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis redshirt freshman libero Roberto Torres-Davis (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/ Colegio San Benito) earned the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week Award after leading Lewis to victories over Mount Olive, King and Lees-McRae over the weekend.
In three matches last week, Torres-Davis averaged 2.27 digs per set and had a .988 serve reception percentage in handling 84 of 85 attempts. In the 3-0 win over Mount Olive, Torres-Davis recorded a match-high nine digs and handled 27 serve receptions without an error. He posted a match-high nine digs in the 3-1 win over King while handling 36 serve receptions without an error. In the 3-1 victory over Lees-McRae, Torres-Davis had seven digs and handled 21 of 22 serve reception attempts.
“It’s fantastic for Roberto,” head coach Dan Friend said. “He was very consistent all weekend and to earn a player of the week honor in your debut is awesome.”
Lewis is 4-0 on the season. The Flyers host Lindenwood on Friday at 7 p.m.
