Lewis Hits .500 In 3-0 Victory Over Carthage
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Sophomore Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) continued his hot play by hitting .619 with 15 kills in Lewis men’s volleyball’s 25-15, 25-19, 25-20 sweep of Carthage Tuesday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers out-hit Carthage .500 to .184 in the 2011 home opener for the Flyers.
The last time Lewis hit .500 in a match was on Jan. 21, 2009 against Carthage.
Eight different Flyers record a kill in the match which featured only six ties and one lead change. Lewis’ middle hitters found success against the Red Men. Junior Aaron Flick (North Ridgeville, Ohio/St. Edward) had seven kills in 10 swings with no errors. Junior Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) had seven kills in nine swings with just one error. Outside hitter sophomore Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) added six kills.
Lewis sided out at an eighty percent clip in each set, limiting Carthage’s longest run to three points.
“Our offense was really good tonight,” head coach Dan Friend. “We were able to get into a groove and side out really well.”
Carthage falls to 1-2. Lewis improves to 4-0 for a second consecutive season. Lewis hosts Lindenwood on Friday evening at 7 p.m. A win would give Lewis their best start to a season since 2007.
