Ohio State Picked as the 2010 MIVA Preseason Favorite
Ohio State and Ball State have three preseason All-Conference selections each
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association by a vote of the league coaches. The Buckeyes edged Ball State by one vote and had four first place votes to three for the Cardinals. Ohio State has been the MIVA regular season championship the last three years and won the MIVA Tournament the last two seasons. Lewis was picked to finish third, Loyola-Chicago fourth and IPFW fifth. First-year member Grand Canyon was picked to finish sixth and Quincy seventh to round out the voting.
The coaches also selected the 2010 MIVA preseason All-Conference Team comprised of nine players and a libero. Five squads are represented on the team with Ohio State and Ball State each having three players. Lewis had two players with IPFW and Loyola-Chicago one each. Voted to the team from Ohio State were Kevin Heine, Steve Kehoe and John Klanac. Ball State players included Billy Ebel, J.D. Gasparovic and Ethan Pheister. Mike Iandolo and Nathan Klaas of Lewis, Darryl Shank of IPFW and Kris Berzins of Loyola-Chicago rounded out the team.
