Buckeyes Sign Three Recruits for 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State men's volleyball head coach Pete Hanson announced the signing of three recruits, Shawn Herron, Peter Heinen and Andrew Lutz who will join the Buckeyes for the 2011 season.
Herron is a 6-8 middle blocker from Columbia High School in Nassau, N.Y. He plays for the Lakeside Volleyball Club and was a member of the 2009 USA Volleyball Youth A2 Development Camp.
"Shawn will bring a big physical presence to our middle blocking position," Hanson said. "His combination of size, athleticism and work ethic will be a great asset to our program."
Heinen is a 6-4 setter from Marquette University High School in Wauwatosa, Wis. He plays for the West Allis Lightning Club. Heinen helped win the state high school championship in 2007 and 2008 and was an all-state selection in 2008 and 2009.
"Peter is a highly skilled and athletic setter, who has directed highly successful high school and club teams," Hanson said. "He will provide us with quality depth and long term stability at a crucial position in our program."
Lutz is a 6-6 middle blocker/opposite from St. John's Prep in North Reading, Mass. He plays for the Beantown Volleyball Club.
"Andrew has that rare combination of good size and exceptional athleticism," Hanson said. "We will look at him at both the middle and opposite positions. He is beginning to tap into his potential and we are looking forward to helping him develop."
Ohio State was 16-11 overall in 2009, winning the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular season championship with a 9-1 record. The Buckeyes won the MIVA Tournament and advanced to the NCAA National Championship Semifinals.
