Ohio State's Mik Berzins Named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week


COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State men's volleyball libero Mik Berzins has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week for his play last week.

Berzins, in the 3-2 (30-26, 30-21, 29-31, 24-30, 15-12) win at IPFW, recorded a match and career-high 26 digs. His 26 digs were the third best match performance in OSU history. In his fifth start at libero and the first since mid-January, Berzins handled 29 of 30 serve reception attempts with 21 (.677) being converted to kills. He had nine of OSU's 15 digs in the deciding fifth game to help OSU to the conference victory. After starting eight of his last nine matches at outside hitter, Berzins saw limited action in game two in the back row against Penn State as a server. He started at libero in game three recording four digs and handling 17 serve reception attempts without an error. For the two matches, Berzins averaged 4.29 digs per game and had a .979 serve reception percentage handling 47 of 48 attempts.
