Matt Gallik Named MIVA Offensive Player of the Week for Lewis
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis sophomore middle hitter Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week for his play in the week ending on March 28. Gallik averaged 4.29 points, 2.67 kills and 1.89 blocks per game while hitting .583 in three matches.
In Lewis’ 3-0 (30-26, 30-23, 30-28) loss at Loyola-Chicago, he recorded seven kills while hitting .417 and added three total blocks (one solo). Gallik, in a 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-28) win over Quincy, collected nine kills while hitting .727. He added two ace serves, three digs and seven total blocks with a solo and six block assists.
Gallik recorded eight kills while hitting .615 in a 3-0 (37-35, 30-21, 30-24) win over George Mason adding three assists, three ace serves and a match-high seven block assists.
The award is Gallik’s second Offensive Player of the Week honor of his career. He took home his first two weeks ago on March 15.
“To see Matt put up solid numbers with a different setter is a testament to not only him but also the team,” head coach Dan Friend said.
The Flyers are 15-7 on the 2010 season and 4-3 in conference play. Lewis hosts IPFW on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
