No. 12 Loyola Sweeps No. 15 Men's Volleyball

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - No. 15 Lewis was out-blocked for the first time this season, 10.0 to 5.0, in a 30-20, 30-22, 30-22 loss to No. 12 Loyola-Chicago on Tuesday night at Neil Carey Arena in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.

Loyola never trailed in the first and third sets. The Ramblers tallied the first five points in the opening set to set an early place. The third set was defined by a 6-1 Loyola stretch that put the match away.

The second frame was tied seven times and featured two lead changes. However Lewis' final lead in the set was at 6-5. Loyola took over the set with an 11-5 stretch midway through the frame.

Loyola out-hit Lewis .413 to .120. Loyola had nine aces to 13 service errors while Lewis committed 15 errors to five aces. Kris Berzins had four aces for Loyola.

"Give credit to Loyola," head coach Dan Friend said. "They're playing great volleyball. We need to improve mentally to become better volleyball players. That's the bottom line for us right now."

Sophomore Aaron Flick (North Ridgeville, Ohio/St. Edward) had a match-high 11 kills on 16 swings to hit .625. Mike Bunting led Loyola with 10 kills.

Loyola improves to 10-0 (4-0 MIVA) while the Flyers fall to 9-3 (2-2 MIVA). Lewis hits the road for a key conference contest on Friday at Ball State. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
