Loyola's Kris Berzins Earns Second MIVA Offensive Player Of The Week Honor

CHICAGO (Feb. 22, 2010) - Loyola University Chicago senior Kris Berzins (Brinklow, Md.) has been named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon (Feb. 22). Berzins' second MIVA honor of the season comes after he led the 12th-ranked Ramblers to 3-0 wins over Juniata on Friday (Feb. 19) and George Mason on Saturday (Feb. 20).
Berzins posted his second double-double of the season in Friday's match against Juniata, recording 10 kills and 10 digs in the win. The senior tied for the team lead in kills (13) against George Mason, adding seven digs, two service aces and four blocks (2 solo, 2 assist) in the team's sixth sweep of the season.
Berzins' first weekly MIVA award, paired with the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II National Player of the Week award, came on Feb. 1. Fellow outside hitter Mike Bunting opened the season with back-to-back MIVA Offensive Player of the Week awards. Berzins currently leads the team in aces (14) and holds the second-highest marks on the team in kills (106) and points (130.0).
Loyola travels to Lewis tomorrow (Feb. 23) to take on the 15th-ranked Flyers in a mid-week MIVA showdown. The match is slated for 7 p.m.
