Quincy unable to hold on against Lewis
(Quincy, Ill.) Despite holding leads in the final two sets of their match against #14 ranked Lewis University the Quincy University men's volleyball team was unable to hold on for the win as they fell 3-0 in their 2010 MIVA opener.
Lewis breezed to a 30-18 win in the first set as Quincy committed eight attack errors and five service errors in the set. Quincy was playing even with Lewis in the first set, trailing just 12-11, but Lewis picked up momentum with a 7-2 run.
Quincy responded strongly at the start of set two and held a 20-16 lead after scoring three straight points on a kill from Peter Coley and back to back kills by Joseph Ascher. Lewis battled back and tied the game up but Quincy led 27-26 with serve until Lewis recorded four consecutive kills to finish the game.
Quincy led again in the third set, leading 11-7 as Lewis committed three straight attack errors. The Hawks led 22-18 after a kill by Chris Zeidler but again Lewis rallied to even the score up at 22-22. Down by one point Quincy tied the score at 28-28 when Joe Sokol ripped a kill down the middle from a set by Dan Dresen. However Lewis picked up back to back points and ended the match.
Quincy was led by Sokol who registered 10 kills and six digs while Dresen finished with 29 assists and Tanner Wright added 10 digs. Quincy falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the MIVA.
