Flick And Iandolo Help No. 15 Lewis Sweep George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. - The No. 15 Flyers swept George Mason (30-21, 30-21, 30-28) on Friday evening in a non-conference road match. Sophomore Aaron Flick (North Ridgeville, Ohio/St. Edward) hit .615 with eight kills and no errors. Defensively he added seven blocks (one solo).

Senior Mike Iandolo (Orlando, Fla./Long Beach State) totaled 39 assists, six block assists and four kills. Senior Nathan Klaas (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) hit .455 with 13 kills. Freshman Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) totaled 11 kills and five digs.

Lewis led 12-9 in the opening set when the Flyers stretched their lead to six points with three straight points.

The Flyers led 3-0 in the second set and 4-1 when George Mason asked for time. Lewis however scored the next two points, the first being an ace by Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North). George Mason tied it at 12 and 13 but a 5-0 run gave the Flyers breathing room at 18-13. Iandolo had a block assist and a kill in the stretch.

The Flyers' only deficit of the match came when the Patriots scored the first point of the third set. Lewis followed with four consecutive points. Iandolo had a kill and two block assists in the push. The Flyers led 22-15 when the Patriots turned it on, scoring 11 of the next 15 points to knot it at 26. The squads went back and forth until Lewis scored the final two points of the set to win 30-28. Flick had a kill for point 29. Flick then combined with Iandolo for a block on point 30.

"They ran off some aces and made a push, but we held tough," head coach Dan Friend said. "Mike did a nice job; he spread the ball around to both pins and was a good leader for us tonight."

Lewis out-hit George Mason .427 to .198.

George Mason falls to 3-4. Lewis improves to 8-2. Lewis continues their trip out east with another non-conference match on Saturday when the Flyers face NCAA DIII National Champion Juniata at 6 p.m. CT.
