IPFW's Shank, Dryden Sweep MIVA Player of the Week Honors
Columbus, OH - Juniors Shaun Dryden and Darryl Shank have been named MIVA Defensive and Offensive Player of Week after turning in impressive weekend showings, helping the 'Dons to a pair of conference wins over Grand Canyon.
Dryden's honor is his second in as many weeks. The defending Defensive Player of the Week averaged 23 digs (3.83 per game) and carried a receiving percentage of .976 (41-42) in the two matches over the weekend. His conference average of 3.67 digs per game currently ranks him first in the MIVA and his overall average of 3.38 per game currently ranks sixth in the country.
Shank was named Offensive Player of the Week after a highly efficient pair of matches. The 6-5 outside hitter posted an identical 17 kills on both Friday and Saturday, averaging 6.33 points and 5.67 kills while carrying a .405 hitting percentage over the weekend. Shank's conference averages of 6.42 points per set and 5.78 kills per set rank first in the MIVA. His 5.42 kills per set is currently the third best tally in the nation.
The 'Dons will return to action this weekend with a weekend series in Pennsylvania. They will take on the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash Friday (Feb. 19) in Loretto before heading to Happy Valley to take on the 7th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions.
