GCU Drops MIVA Match at IPFW
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Grand Canyon (5-9,
0-4) lost 3-0 at IPFW in the first game of a two-game Midwestern
Intercollegiate Volleyball Association set at Gates Sports Center
Friday.
The 'Lopes and Mastodons (4-5, 1-3) meet again Saturday at 5 p.m.
Phoenix time.
GCU was led by sophomore outside hitter Brock Hutchins
(Gilbert, Ariz./Highland/Hawai'i) with 16 kills and a .273
attack average. Freshman middle hitter Chris Lockwood
(Lakewood, Calif./Lakewood) had seven kills, no hitting
errors (.538), two solo blocks and three service aces.
Freshman setter Brad Moore (Orange,
Calif./Lutheran) had 34 assists and freshman libero
Trent Bruns (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo)
had 10 digs.
GCU had a shot at stealing game two as freshman Zach
Neilson (Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor) had a
successful attack on a Moore assist. It gave the Antelopes a 25-22
lead. IPFW came back to tie it at 26-26 and GCU couldn't hold off
the Mastodons the rest of the way.
It was 18-18 in the third when IPFW scored four straight to
take control.
