Hawks Mount Come-From-Behind Win Over Hannibal-LaGrange
(Hannibal, Mo.) The Quincy University men's volleyball team needed five games after dropping the first two games of the match but in the end completed a remarkable come from behind 3-2 win over Hannibal-LaGrange College.
Quincy dropped the first two games of the match against Hannibal-LaGrange by the scores of 30-25. The Hawks had just nine kills in game one and 12 in game two before finally getting their attack going. With the home court advantage the Trojans fans were quieted in game three when Quincy showed signs of busting loose, finishing with 16 kills and just five attack errors and taking the game 30-20.
The Hawks silenced the gym with their most impressive set of the season, recording 18 kills and just three attack errors while taking the fourth set by the score of 30-17. Quincy hit .517 as a team in the set. Hannibal-LaGrange recorded the first point of the set but the Hawks quickly took a commanding 9-4 lead. The Trojans closed to within three points at 13-10 but Quincy held off the Trojans by rolling off four straight points with Joe Ascher recording two kills and teaming up with Peter Coley for a block while Coley also added a kill during the run.
Hannibal-LaGrange opened the fifth set with a 3-1 lead when Quincy got the ball back on a Trojan service error and tied the score up on a block by Joe Sokol and Coley. The Hawks took the lead for good when Coley threw down a kill off a set from Dan Dresen to take a 6-5 lead. The Hawks finished off the Trojans when Ascher pounded a kill to close out the match and give Quincy their second consecutive win.
Quincy hit .230 as a team in the match and finished with 21 total team blocks. Ascher led the way with 16 kills while Tim Lovik added 15 kills and Coely finished with 11 kills. Dan Dresen paced Quincy with 41 assists while Tanner Wright added 12 digs.
Quincy improves to 2-1 on the season and returns to action at home on February 2nd when they host Lewis University in a MIVA contest. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Pepsi Arena.
