Loyola's Mike Bunting Named MIVA Offensive Player Of The Week
CHICAGO (Jan. 19, 2009) - Loyola University Chicago sophomore Mike Bunting has been named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon (Jan. 19). Bunting helped the Ramblers to 3-0 wins against Carthage (30-18, 30-14, 30-23) and No. 13 Ball State (30-28, 31-29, 30-25) to open the season last week.
Bunting is the first Offensive Player of the Week in MIVA history, as the conference created two separate awards this season to honor the top offensive and defensive player each week. The weekly award marks the first of Bunting's career and Loyola's first since then-junior George Kamberos earned recognition from the conference on April 27, 2009.
Bunting tied for the team lead in kills against Carthage, recording six for the match. The Wyomissing, Pa., native also led the team in hitting percentage in the win over Ball State, hitting .435 (14-4-23) in the win. Bunting leads the team in points (23.5) and is tied for the team lead in kills (20) through the first two matches of the season.
Loyola continues MIVA action this weekend, traveling to IPFW this Friday (Jan. 22) to take on the Mastodons at 6 p.m. CT.
